Elsewhere book review

Hey, another review for you!

This is not a particularly well - known or new book, but one that I found and remembered reading. Without rereading it, I could remember exactly what happened in it, and all about the characters. This was a sign that it was a book that I loved.

Written by Gabrielle Zevin, Elsewhere is a book about 15 (nearly 16) year old Liz. Unlike most books, the story begins with her death. Liz then wakes up on her way to a heaven, a special heaven. Instead of ageing, you get younger every day, and eventually, when you are just a baby, you get sent away in a cradle and back to earth to begin your life again. At first Liz hates the idea of never turning 16, but after making friends and finding love, she is finally happy.

The beauty of this book is the idea that when you die, you eventually relive your life as a baby again. Although you will not remember your previous life, you have the opportunity to live a completely different one. You can make different choices, and achieve different things. After reading Elsewhere, I couldn't stop smiling. It is such a heartwarming book, and despite having a sad and slightly depressing beginning, the ending was truly beautiful.

Gabrielle Zevin is a great writer and must have a very artistic and creative mind to come up with the ageing backwards idea. However I don't feel that it is the best written book that I have read. The way it is written could have been a little more interesting. Apart from that, I thought that Elsewhere is a brilliant book.

Excitement/Enjoyment: 5/5
Writing technique: 4/5
Overall: 4/5
