Sophie McKenzie

Now for an author review! Sophie McKenzie is one of my favourite author's, I simply love her writing style and books. Her books are very popular, and full of suspense and excitement. Those are my kind of books.

Her "Missing" series are a huge success. The first book, "Girl, Missing" is one of my favourites. I hugely recommend that and the sequel "Sister, Missing" to readers who love mystery, excitement and friendships.

The Medusa series is also very popular. They are about a group of children with a special gene which enables them to have a special power. Sci - fi books are not normally my favourite, but I was pleasantly surprised with this series. The teenage main characters are very realistic and have to deal with many thrilling problems.

A trilogy which I was recently introduced to was the "Luke and Eve" trilogy. The first book in the series "6 Steps to a Girl" is brilliant. It is about a teenager named Luke dealing with the recent death of his father. However, he finds love. Unfortunately, his new crush is on the most popular, beautiful girl in school. Plus, she already has a boyfriend. The trilogy is all about his journey to being Eve's boyfriend, and then the troubles that they face together. I am in love with these books, I couldn't tear myself away from them until I had read every word.

Sophie Mckenzie is obviously a very talented author, and I would like to say thank you to her for giving us readers such amazing books. She is inspirational, and I hope one day that I can be as brilliant a writer as she is.

Elsewhere book review

Hey, another review for you!

This is not a particularly well - known or new book, but one that I found and remembered reading. Without rereading it, I could remember exactly what happened in it, and all about the characters. This was a sign that it was a book that I loved.

Written by Gabrielle Zevin, Elsewhere is a book about 15 (nearly 16) year old Liz. Unlike most books, the story begins with her death. Liz then wakes up on her way to a heaven, a special heaven. Instead of ageing, you get younger every day, and eventually, when you are just a baby, you get sent away in a cradle and back to earth to begin your life again. At first Liz hates the idea of never turning 16, but after making friends and finding love, she is finally happy.

The beauty of this book is the idea that when you die, you eventually relive your life as a baby again. Although you will not remember your previous life, you have the opportunity to live a completely different one. You can make different choices, and achieve different things. After reading Elsewhere, I couldn't stop smiling. It is such a heartwarming book, and despite having a sad and slightly depressing beginning, the ending was truly beautiful.

Gabrielle Zevin is a great writer and must have a very artistic and creative mind to come up with the ageing backwards idea. However I don't feel that it is the best written book that I have read. The way it is written could have been a little more interesting. Apart from that, I thought that Elsewhere is a brilliant book.

Excitement/Enjoyment: 5/5
Writing technique: 4/5

The Hunger Games review

This is my first book review, and one that I am very passionate about! The Hunger Games trilogy is one of my favourites. Not only is the storyline enthralling, Suzanne Collins has written it perfectly. I hugely admire her. However this review will focus only on the first book in the amazing trilogy.

For those of you who don't know, The Hunger Games is set in a future North America. It has been seperated into 12 districts, each with their own trading speciality. To make sure that every resident in Panem understands that the Capitol has complete control over them, they created a reality TV show where one girl and one boy from each district are forced to fight to the death in an arena. Only one can survive.

Katniss Everdeen, a 16 year old from District 12 loves hunting with her best friend Gale Hawthorne, but after volunteering to take the place of her younger sister Primrose in the Hunger Games, she finds herself having to hunt fellow children.

I will not give away the rest of the plotline, but I assure you that you will not be dissapointed. So much happens within the 451 pages of the book.

Katniss is described so well within the book that you begin to feel that you have known her for years. She is a stong - willed, determined and independent which makes her a very believable character. Her relationship with Peeta Mallark is slightly confusing though. Some parts make you believe that she is just leading him on to win sponsors and survive, but at times you think that she geniunely loves him. Suzanne Collins has cleverly written it so that to find out more about their relationship, you must read the rest of the trilogy.

I strongly disagree that it is only enjoyed by girl's. I cannot think of a more versatile book. To balance out the love triangle aspect of the story, there is heaps of action packed into this book. There is part of it that appeals to everyone. The action scenes of the actual Games are described amazingly. Every death and every injury makes the reader gasp and mourn, or in some cases, be glad.

For every review, I will give it a rating out of 5 in three areas.

Excitement/Enjoyment: 5/5
Writing technique: 5/5
Overall rating:  5/5

My First Post!

Hi, I'm Amy. Welcome to my blog.
"My Writing Dreams" will be all about books. It will include Book Reviews, Authors, New Releases and chapters of a story which I am currently writing.

For a few year's now, I have wanted to become a well - known and successful author. I love coming up with scenarios and putting them onto paper, where I am able to expand the storyline and create realistic characters. I find it amazing to be able to create so many different people and worlds in your imagination and I have always wanted to share these story's with others. Author's like JK Rowling truly inspire me.  She has worked so hard in order to create a simple idea from her imagination into a worldwide phenomenon. My Writing Dream is to become as great an author as her.

I don't just love writing, I thoroughly enjoy reading too. Reading books is one of my favourite things to do. By picking up a book, you are preparing to travel to new places, to meet new people, to laugh and to cry. Every book is different. I like many different genre of books, and I am not afraid to read something that I don't normally read. It just adds to the growing pile of books in my head (and bedroom).

Which do you prefer? Reading or Writing? Post your answers in the comments box below, and a new post will be up shortly. Thanks for reading "My Writing Dreams" and I would be very grateful if you followed this page.
